Liberia airport finally has a lounge again. It’s called Pura Lounge, and I paid $45 for a day pass that covers a buffet, drinks with alcohol, seating and Wi-Fi. If you have a long wait before your flight, it’s a pretty good deal. If your flight leaves in the evening, you’re out of luck, because it closes at 5 p.m.
I had about three hours to kill at the Liberia airport (LIR) in August 2026, so I walked in and checked it out.

Where Pura Lounge Is
Pura Lounge is in the main terminal at the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia. You’ll find it in departures, after security and passport control, opposite Gate 8. That means you have to clear security first. You can’t use it while you wait for someone to land.
It’s down at the far end of the terminal. The airport’s own website still says the lounge is “coming soon,” but it was open when I visited on August 11, 2026. Local news reported it opening in summer 2026.

What the $45 Day Pass Includes
I paid $45 for a walk-in day pass. Here’s what’s included:
- Buffet — breakfast or lunch, depending on the time of day
- Drinks — coffee, water, soda, beer, wine and spirits
- Seating — a dining room plus lounge chairs by the windows
- Wi-Fi — free for the whole stay
- Flight screens — so you can watch for your gate
- Bathrooms — very nice when I was there
There’s no dress code. You can stay up to 3 hours. Entry also depends on space, so a full lounge can turn you away.
Prices change, so treat $45 as what I paid in August 2026. Launch reports said $43. The airport hasn’t published a rate, so check the price at the desk before you pay.
Showers were coming soon when I visited. They weren’t open yet. Priority Pass and Amex now both list paid showers. Ask at the desk whether they’re open and what they cost.

The Food and Drinks
I was there at lunch. The buffet had chicken and rice, a pasta and some salad greens. I had the pasta. It was very good, and the sauce is all natural. I’m on a no-carb kick right now, so I probably shouldn’t have. I did eat the green stuff too.
Then there’s a fruit bar. They had pineapple, and ham next to it. Pineapple and ham, I’m in.

The coffee was great. There’s also water and soda on the self-serve side.
Wine is included, and so are beer and spirits. If you plan to drink a fair bit before your flight, this is where the $45 pays for itself fast.

Priority Pass and LoungeKey
Pura Lounge is part of Priority Pass. If you have a Priority Pass membership, you may get in without paying the day rate. Amex Platinum holders can get in through their Priority Pass enrollment.
LoungeKey was on the sign at the desk too. I couldn’t find a LoungeKey listing for it online, so check your card’s app before you count on it.
I’m not part of any of these programs, so I paid for the day pass. Guest rules and guest fees depend on your membership plan. Check your app for those.
The old VIP lounge upstairs was reported closed in January 2025. Pura Lounge replaces it.
Hours and the Catch for Evening Flights
Pura Lounge is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., every day. That’s the big catch.
If your flight leaves at 7 p.m., the lounge will already be closed by the time you’d want it. Check your departure time before you plan your day around it. Fortunately most flights leave Liberia in the early afternoon.
The 3 hour limit matters too. If you show up at 9 a.m. for a 4 p.m. flight, you can’t camp there all day. Plan to go in for the last three hours before boarding, as long as that’s before 5 p.m.

If you have a long gap before a midday flight, you could also spend it outside the airport. Our Liberia guide covers the town, and Playa Ocotal is close by if you want one last swim.
Is It Worth $45?
For me it was. I was waiting about three hours. In the terminal, I figured I’d spend about $20 on food. I’d probably spend at least $30 on drinks. That’s $50 out in the terminal, and $45 got me all of it plus a seat. Not a bad deal.
It’s not worth it every time, though. I’d skip it if:
- You have less than an hour before boarding
- Your flight leaves after 5 p.m., because it’ll be closed
- You don’t drink and only want a snack
- You already have Priority Pass, because you may not need the day pass at all

Bringing Kids
Kids under 10 get in free with an adult. The “with an adult” part makes sense. You can’t send your kid in alone to drink the wine.
That makes it a decent option for families with young kids and a long wait. You get a seat, food and a bathroom close by. The little ones don’t cost extra. Ask at the desk what older kids pay.
Here’s my quick walk through of the lounge, from the desk to the buffet and the bar.
It’s a short video. Watch for the sign at the desk with the lounge programs on it. If you know whether the showers are open now, let me know in the comments on YouTube.
